My protagonist, probation officer Casey Carson, is like an old friend to me now. I created her about twenty years ago. And although I put the manuscript aside multiple times, sometimes for years, she stayed with me. The first in the series, OBEY ALL LAWS, was released a year ago. It won a best suspense award from the Public Safety Writer’s Association. And I couldn’t be happier with the reviews. Readers love watching Casey get sucked into all kinds of trouble. And there’s no shortage of problems for Casey to face in book 2: EARLY TERMINATION.
There are two ways to get off probation early. One is to complete all conditions imposed by the court. The other way is to die. I’ll let you guess which path Casey’s clients take. She has to find the killer before she’s the one terminated.
Book 3: DIVERSION is in the hands of Beta readers and will release in February 2026.
I miss my fictional friends when I’m not writing about them. They’re constantly in my head.
But I’ve had to put them aside for a bit as I work on my cozy mystery series. DIAMOND IN THE RUFF, A Wiggle Butt Manor Mystery is slated for a May 2025 release. That series takes place at a pet hotel and features two of my pups, Noah, a cocker spaniel and Maya, a basic brown dog who’s a lovable hellion. Unfortunately, both dogs are no longer physically with us, but they live on in my series. The main character, Charlie Calderbank, is forced out of the police academy when she is diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. When Maya’s owner never shows to claim her from the hotel, Charlie has to find out what happened to her and why. This one takes place in the fictitious island town of Orca Cove. The local is loosely based on my favorite spot, the San Juan Islands.
In December, my first short story published in the anthology LOST & LOADED, A GUN’S TALE. I hadn’t written a short story since I was twelve and it was an honor to have A BIG MESS chosen for the project.
It’s been a wild year and I’m excited about what’s coming. My favorite part of this debut year has been connecting with readers.
